Calling LA County Artists! Apply for Artist-in-Residence Opportunity by 5pm June 29!
The Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture invites LA County-based artists to apply for an artist residency with the LA County Cultural Climate Commons: Community Memory Lab & Living Archive.

This is a collaboration between Arts and Culture, LA County Library, LA County Library Foundation, the Altadena Library District, Altadena Library Foundation, and Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) / Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA).

The Artist-in-Residence will collaborate with the Project Partners to develop a project that may include but is not limited to artistic interventions, approaches, and strategies; community engagement and participation; the creation of new artworks; and/or access to artistic and cultural experiences to meet the goals of the project which include:
  1. Develop a series of collective memory and artmaking workshops for Altadena residents and others impacted by the January 2025 fires that provide space for creative expression and storytelling and that foster healing and strengthen community bonds. Facilitate the addition of community created artworks and ephemera to LA County Library’s new digital archive.
  2. Facilitate an opportunity for Altadena-based artists to digitize their artwork as part of LA County Library’s digital collections, elevating and giving more permanence to work that may have been previously overlooked, and contributing to a more holistic Altadena history.
  3. In collaboration with LAPL, explore ways to connect Artist’s workshops in Altadena to similar efforts led by LAPL, LFLA, and others in the Pacific Palisades.
Share Your Experience After the 2025 Los Angeles Fires
Researchers from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Climate Mental Health Network are conducting a study to better understand how the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires have affected students, families, and educators, and how schools and communities can support emotional wellbeing and recovery during and after disasters.

They are inviting parents, educators, and students (ages 14–17) who were impacted by the wildfires to participate in a virtual focus group discussion. Participation is voluntary.

RESOURCE TO HELP AVOID CONTRACTOR SCAMS
The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and Winston & Strawn LLP have created a comprehensive guide to help disaster survivors safely hire contractors, review rebuild contracts, and avoid construction scams.

BuildNotes.LA – Wholesale Marketplace for Wildfire Rebuild
BuildNotes.LA is a wholesale marketplace supporting the LA wildfire rebuild. It helps homeowners access building materials and products at more transparent, wholesale pricing during the reconstruction process.

If you are planning to purchase materials and products for your home after you’ve already signed your construction contract, consider including an allowances section in your contract. This can help ensure that any cost savings from material pricing are passed directly back to you, rather than being absorbed by your builder.
