Altadena Library Wants to Hear Your Story
Public libraries across California deliver essential services and trusted information and serve all California communities. From Jan. 25–31, Altadena Library asks patrons to share their own library stories.

Whether you’re bringing your child to story time, using the library computers, checking out items from books to sewing machines, asking a question, or many of the other things you can do at the library, we want to hear about it!

The survey will take just a minute or two. Take the survey (available in English & Spanish) here!

Altadena Revealed Lecture Series - Itinerant Craftsman: Lessons from the Duntley-Blackburn Residence
Friday, Jan. 30 • 7-8:30pm
Altadena Main Library, 600 E Mariposa
In 1910 a grand Craftsman-style home was built for realtor G.M. Duntley. By 2025 the building was slated for demolition, but was ultimately saved and relocated from Los Feliz to a fire-ravaged plot in Altadena. The house had been saved once before, by owner Alice Blackburn who threw a huge party in the house the night it moved from East Hollywood to make way for the Hollywood Freeway. Although the party was unusual, at the time it was common practice to transport and reuse threatened buildings. It's time to revive this building relocation tradition at scale — a process that will require revised historic ordinances, streamlined permitting, and regular coordination among local governments.

Running from January 31 through February 3, Ashes & Echoes features 49 in-depth interviews with survivors — elders, families, and longtime residents whose lives were disrupted by the fire and whose stories reflect both profound loss and enduring strength. What began as an oral history project now moves beyond the archive, inviting the public to step inside these lived experiences.

Through large-scale projections, life-sized portraits, interactive exhibits, and more, Ashes & Echoes creates an environment where memory is not static, but shared. Visitors are immersed in the voices of the community — hearing directly from those impacted as they reflect on what home meant, what was lost, and what restoration looks like one year later.
