The Bob Lucas Memorial Library is currently closed for renovations.

2025 Board of Trustees Vacancy
The Altadena Library Board of Trustees announces a vacancy and will make an appointment to fill that seat.
Applications must be received by
5:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025.
 
The Board of Trustees is accepting applications from anyone who would like to serve on the board for the two-year term ending on December 4, 2026.
 
Applicants must be at least 18, a resident of Altadena and registered to vote in Altadena. The chosen candidate will be sworn in at the Regular meeting on April 28, 2025. Please note that if you are temporarily displaced due to the Eaton Fire and intend to return to Altadena as your primary residence, you may apply.  
 
The current seat is for the two-year unexpired term ending 12/4/2026. Please note this seat is at-large, but that in 2026 this seat will only be open to residents in the Altadena Library District Area 3. If you have questions about this, please call (626) 798-0833 ext. 118.
 
The board meets at 5:00 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month; this unpaid, volunteer position involves budgetary and policy oversight as well as high-level strategic decision-making for the Altadena Library District. Interested parties should submit:

These documents must be received by 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025. The board will interview potential candidates at a Special Board Meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025. Each candidate will be given 3 minutes to make a statement and will then be asked to answer 3 questions, which will be provided to candidates in advance of the meeting.

The Bob Lucas Library Renovation Is Coming Along!
The renovation and expansion of the Bob Lucas Memorial Library is about 80% complete, and the branch is scheduled to open in Summer 2025! Stay tuned for more updates soon!

If you had library materials that were destroyed in the fire, please let us know in person or by calling the Main Library at 626-798-0833 during operating hours. 
 
The Friends of the Altadena Library are not accepting any used book donations at this time.

Add Your Wish to the Altadena Wishing Tree in April!

As we welcome our community back to the library, we invite you to share your hopes and dreams for the future of Altadena. Visit the library during our open hours from April 1 to 30, write down your wish for our community on a provided tag, hang the tag on our Wishing Tree.
 

   

Celebrate National Library Week with the Altadena Libraries!
April 7-12, 2025

Celebrate National Library week with us April 7-12! We'll be offering:
  • three library-themed storytimes
    Baby Storytime (Monday, April 7, 10:30am, Community Room) 
    Bilingual Evening Storytime (Monday, April 7, 6pm, Children's Room) 
    Toddler Storytime (Thursday, April 10, 10:30am, Community Room)
  • a library-themed trivia contest for adults and teens
  • a self-directed Storybook Scavenger Hunt for children 3-12
  • a comic book page for teens to complete that answers the question: "What draws you to the Altadena Library?"
  • and two fun all-ages events (see below)

Drawn Into the Library: A Comic Writing Workshop

The Caregiving Games
Tuesday, April 8

'The Caregiving Games' were created by Rene(e) as they watched their grandfather struggling with dementia and stroke recovery and wanted to find ways to keep him engaged, strengthened and relearning, in a fun way, with whatever was already in the house or inexpensive/easy to obtain.
 
In addition to those goals being met, playing the games led to a deeper connection between the two of them and now Rene(e) wants to share them with other caregivers in the hopes that they, and those they are caring for, can experience similar.

Second Saturday: Blue Breeze Band

Join us for a free indoor concert on the Second Saturday of the month. This month, we will host the Blue Breeze Band. The concert begins at 6:30pm! Registration is required, and this concert is indoors.
 
The Blue Breeze Band electrifies events throughout the United States with their dynamic blend of Motown, R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz, and Blues. Their versatile sound and charismatic stage presence captivate audiences of all ages.

New Parent Infant Feeding Support Group

The New Parent Infant Feeding Support Group is a monthly meeting space for local new parents to gather and ask questions about infant feeding and breastfeeding/chestfeeding in a supportive, inclusive, and nonjudgmental setting.
 
You will get the opportunity to ask any questions or concerns you have about new parenthood and infant feeding and receive appropriate advice from Rachel Paul, a registered nurse and a board certified lactation consultant, and open support from other attendees.

Join us for the annual Poetry & Cookies event with our 2024-2026 Poets Laureate and others. 
 
Altadena Co-Poet Laureate Lester Graves Lennon is the poetry editor for Rosebud magazine and is the author of three poetry collections: The Upward Curve of Earth and Heavens (2001), My Father Was a Poet (2013) and Lynchings: Postcards from America (2022). He has lived in Altadena with his family since 1992.
 
Altadena Co-Poet Laureate Sehba Sarwar (she/her) is a novelist (Black Wings, Veliz Books, 2019) and poet published in Asia: Magazine of Asian Literature, Poetry in English from Pakistan, Callaloo and elsewhere. She has received awards through LA’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Pasadena’s Cultural Affairs Division, Mid-America Arts Alliance amidst others.

Let's Dance

Join us for a fun and engaging introductory dance workshop led by an instructor from the Let's Dance! program!
 
This exciting initiative aims to promote dance as a vibrant art form, giving every child the chance to learn and express themselves through movement.
 
Space is limited and registration required. For ages 6-11.
 
This workshop is designed for beginner dancers and will introduce various dance styles and terms, helping kids develop a deeper appreciation for dance. At the end of the session, youth will be able to show off a short dance routine to their adults!
 
Please bring water and wear comfortable clothing.
 

Fruit-Powered Clock

A Science Experiment on Electricity

We will learn a bit about electricity and what creates charge to power up different devices. Using our knowledge, we will use different fruits and vegetables as batteries to power a digital clock. What edible item has the most electric charge?

The Constellations Project w/ Side Street Projects

  • connect with queer elders
