UPDATE FROM ALTADENA LIBRARIES; RESOURCES FOR THOSE IMPACTED

Our Altadena Libraries Are Thankfully Still Here!
We want to let you know that social media and news reports that our libraries are gone are incorrect.

We received visual confirmation late this afternoon that our libraries, the Altadena Main Library and Bob Lucas Memorial branch, are both undamaged (see video and pictures below). Please share this information with your friends and family so that we can keep our community updated.

We are devastated by the damage this fire has done to our beloved Altadena, and our hearts go out to all affected by this disaster. Yet we are grateful to be part of such a resilient and close-knit community and are committed to supporting Altadena in every way possible as we grieve, come together, and rebuild.

Please stay safe and look out for one another.

Dear Neighbor,

I was devastated yesterday to hear that five people in our community have lost their lives from the Eaton Fire, and my thoughts are with their families and all those suffering from this week’s wildfires. My top priority remains assisting people in my district to safety and supporting the heroic first responders from California and surrounding states who are working around the clock to contain the wildfires.

As of last night, President Biden has issued a Major Disaster Declaration for the Los Angeles fires. I'm immensely grateful because this means that residents and businesses in wildfire evacuation zones in our area can apply NOW for immediate and long-term federal relief.

I’m encouraging impacted Californians to apply for this immediate and long-term relief once safely out of the wildfires’ paths. Our region’s recovery will be long, but we’re resilient. I want to assure you that my office stands with you and is here to help.

Here’s how to apply:
Visit: www.disasterassistance.gov
Call: 800-621-FEMA (3362)
Use: The FEMA mobile app

What does this relief include?

For residents and homeowners:

  • Temporary displacement assistance (e.g., hotel costs for up to two weeks)
  • $770 for essential personal items
  • Larger direct grants to help cover essential needs such as medical bills, car repairs, and more
For businesses and homeowners:

For more information and answers to additional questions, please visit my webpage at https://chu.house.gov/EatonFire. My team and I will do our best to update it as new information becomes available.

If you require immediate medical attention, please visit an urgent care location, our hospital’s emergency department or call 911.

For those who were ordered to evacuate please know that the Pasadena Convention Center located at 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101 is open for safe shelter, with food and medical personnel on hand.

For any other questions please don't hesitate to reach out to my office.

Thank you for reading,
Judy Chu
