ALTADENA POETRY REVIEW: ANTHOLOGY 2025
Open Submission Period: 
October 1 to December 15, 2024
Calling all writers in Southern California!
Lester Graves Lennon, co-Poet Laureate of Altadena Library District & Editor of the 2025 Anthology, and Sehba Sarwar, co-Poet Laureate for programming, invite poets to submit their work for consideration for online publication in the Altadena Poetry Review 2025. The submission window will be open from October 1 to December 15, 2024. The Anthology will be available, online, beginning in Spring 2025. All submitted poems must be edited and in final, error-free form.
 
The following guidelines must be followed precisely in order for any submission to be considered: 
 
1. Submit 1 to 2 poems, with each poem on a separate page as follows:
  • Maximum length of any poem: one page, one side of page only.
  • Font: 12 pt. Times Roman OR Palatino Linotype throughout.
  • Single-spaced except when stanza breaks or line breaks require double-spacing.
  • Title of poem written in capital letters at top of its page.
  • Your name written at the end of the poem, at the bottom of the page. INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER AFTER YOUR NAME for quick access to you in case we have questions.
  • Write ONE email as described below, and attach your poems to this email. 
 2. Submissions must be sent to this email address: Altadenapoetryreview@gmail.com
 3. The subject line of your email will be: ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSION.
 4. Do NOT submit an author bio at this time.
 
➢ Your submission can be on any topic.
➢ The submissions can be previously published or unpublished, but YOU must own the copyright.
➢ Previously published work must include, below your name at the bottom of the page, where and when it was previously published (name of book or journal; date of publication; press, if applicable).
 
You will be notified of the status of your submission(s) no later than February 15, 2025. All decisions are final. Thank you very much for your interest and participation.

The Altadena Chamber invites local businesses to create a holiday promotion for the weekend of the Sip & Shop event to entice shoppers as they stroll and explore the wonderful offerings at various businesses. We will provide a complete list featuring all participating member businesses, along with a special Holiday marketing campaign designed to drive customers to your businesses. 
 
To participate, please reply with a holiday special, coupon, or discount that you would like us to promote, valid Dec. 6-8. Additionally, please include the following information: business address, website, and hours of operation.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month with Altadena Library!
 
Upcoming: Gabrielino Tongva: Pictograph Rock Painting
Saturday, Nov. 30, 11:00am-1:00pm, Main Library Community Room (all ages)
Council Woman Murillo will teach us the significance of pictographs in Tongva culture, and what the Tongva use to paint and create art. Rocks will be gathered from natural resources. Each participant will paint their rock art that describes an important event in their lives, their family, or simply who they are as a person.

The Altadena Chamber of Commerce & Civic Association hosts an Open Session of its Board Meeting for the public to attend on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM, excluding legal holidays. Open Sessions allow the Chamber to keep members and the community engaged and informed while promoting transparency and encouraging community participation.
 
Join us for our next session, a hybrid meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 10am. We will meet in person at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Drive. A Zoom link will also be emailed for those who wish to attend virtually. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Altadena Poets Laureate: Chewing on the Alphabet and Stealing from the Best
Poetry workshop with former LA Poet Laureate Lynne Thompson
Saturday, Dec. 14 • 11am-1pm

Lynne Thompson served as the fourth Los Angeles Poet Laureate and received a Poet Laureate Fellowship from the Academy of American Poets. She is the author of four collections of poetry: Beg No Pardon, winner of the Perugia Press Prize and the Great Lakes Colleges New Writers Award. During this workshop, we’ll look at and discuss the work of poets who have employed a variety of strategies to craft poems and how you may adopt—and even subvert them—to write your own!

Melodia Mariposa presents our all-star orchestra of LA's best musicians, conducted again by the amazing Larry Blank. Mezzo Soprano Suzanna Guzmán also returns to thrill with her singing of classic pieces and holiday treats. There is a cash bar and appetizers before the concert and a champagne toast at the end. Additional soloists and the final program will be announced soon, but get your tickets early as we expect a sell out crowd this year! Tickets $65 ($20 for students) - 20% Discount for Melodia Mariposa members
