The Bob Lucas Memorial Library is currently closed for renovations.

The renovation and expansion of the Bob Lucas Memorial Library is underway, and we are excited to share some of the changes happening there. The branch is scheduled to open in Spring 2025! For more information, go to www.altadenalibrary.org/next-chapter.

September Is National Library Card Sign-Up Month
 
Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month this September with the Altadena Library District and the American Library Association! We invite you to discover the incredible resources and opportunities available at our libraries by signing up for a library card.
 
For the whole month of September, neighbors who sign up for a library card will receive a registration prize (while supplies last)!

Sunset Yoga at Altadena Library

Experience the tranquility of Sunset Yoga on the front lawn of Altadena Library with Merry Birchfield.
 
This outdoor yoga session is designed for all levels, helping you feel confident, strong, and relaxed. Join Merry as she guides you through mindful movements, ensuring a revitalizing experience for all.
 
Registration required. Adult and teens only. Please bring a yoga mat and water and wear comfortable clothes.
 
A waiver is required for every participant. The waiver will be emailed to all attendees before each event.

Momentum Creative, operated by Momentum, is at the intersection of personal expression and independence. Through innovative supports and resources, individuals have the freedom and flexibility they need to produce, market, and sell their work. Momentum Creative features artists using Momentum services, Los Angeles area artists, and invited guests from all over the world.
 
Momentum is passionate about empowering children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions and providing a lifespan of services to cultivate freedom of choice and self-expression. This vigorous community of working artists includes people with a variety of physical and developmental challenges such as autism, cerebral palsy, and down syndrome, whose perspective is vital within the contemporary art world. Momentum is committed to the development of new platforms for artists, particularly those with extraordinarily unique methods, to structure their personal practice and empower authentic self-expression.
 
Many of the distinctive processes utilized by featured artists are enabled by original art tools designed and fabricated in-studio to optimize individual dexterity and control. A mantra amongst artists in the studio is that creative expression is not bound by physicality; rather, it is defined by the will to innovate. Innovative Studios: The NEW Modern Art, presents the work of 15 emerging and established artists that you have to see!

Curiosity Connection Vol. 2 Ribbon-Cutting Celebration

A Focus on Banned Books

Ecos de España: Spanish Classical & Flamenco Music & Dance

Join us for an enchanting journey into the heart of Spain with dancer Susana Elena and classical guitarist Dr. Randy Pile. Experience the vibrant rhythms and passionate movements of Spanish and Gypsy dances, and get hands-on with flamenco clapping, arm movements, and a castanet workshop. This family-friendly program welcomes all ages to explore the rich cultural heritage of Spain.

Get ready for an unforgettable evening of culinary delights, soulful melodies, and community spirit as the Altadena Library Foundation proudly presents the Taste of ‘Dena on Saturday, Sept. 28. 

Back for its seventh year, Taste of ‘Dena is the foundation’s annual fundraising event to celebrate the Altadena Library District. And this year, the Foundation is pleased to honor the lifetime achievements of Mr. William J. and Mrs. Brenda L. Galloway for their decades of service to the community and legacy of commitment to education. 
 
Event guests will enjoy an unforgettable evening of delicious food, smooth wines, live music, and a silent auction in support of the Altadena Library District, a 98-year-old institution dedicated to bringing people and ideas together.

Teen Leadership Council

Join this year’s fall cohort (teens 13-18 years old), which will meet for 4 consecutive months. We will work together to collectively identify social issues here in the Altadena community that not only teens but other community members face.
 
Over the first three months, we will find creative ways to take action through community service and on the fourth month conduct a program on December 10. You must attend all meetings and register.

We Invite You to Become a Literacy Tutor!

Our tutors empower adult learners by teaching basic reading, writing and functional literacy skills. After completing a self-paced, online training module and being matched with a learner, tutors and learners meet 1 to 2 hours per meeting at least once a week at the library or other location based on their schedules. Tutors must commit to a minimum of six months.

Only Friends of the Library are able to shop from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, but you can become a member on-site for $10. The sale is open to all from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
